EXCA Brave Horse

The Brave Horse, Volume 2, Issue 3

March 2010

Welcome to the Extreme Cowboy Association

We are excited about 2010 and the many fun filled and exciting Extreme Cowboy Racing events that are on the schedule.  The formation of EXCA has been an thrilling and challenging adventure! Many people have worked tirelessly to create an association that you will be proud to tell your friends about.  This is the latest issue of your monthly newsletter, The Brave Horse.

You will receive it each month electronically around the middle of the month.  The Brave Horse will be full of interesting stories, EXCA event results, point standings, human interest stories about EXCA members and Tips and Tales from our founder, Craig Cameron.  We encourage you to communicate your suggestions for stories and ideas that will make  The Brave Horse fun, better and more informative.

The Brave Horse the best newsletter in the equine world.  Please forward your ideas and suggestions to Bill Hull at bhextremecowboy@gmail.com.

EXPOSURE CREATES EXPERIENCE

Patience and a Passion for Practice

The only way to gain experience is to have ongoing exposure.  Whether its horses, music, art or tennis, you only become experienced through exposure.  If your goal is to become an experienced horseman, you have to seek and find ongoing exposure to the world of horses.  This can be accomplished by having exposure to experienced horsemen, horse trainers, horse shows, rodeos, boarding facilities and of course, horses.  The list goes on and on; there is no such thing as too much exposure. Exposure is accomplished day by day, little by little; as we strive to attain the experience we need to get better and better as horsemen.

Another key ingredient to gaining experience is time. It takes a lot of time and a commitment to learn to gain the experience you desire.  Taking time to learn requires patience.  You won’t reach your goal if you are in a hurry.  The bottom line is this: take the time to expose yourself to the ongoing experience of learning.  The experienced horsemen have taken the time to learn through observation and they have developed a passion for practice.  It’s simple; if you commit the time to observe; have patience and develop a passion to practice, you will achieve the experience you desire to become a better horseman.

Ride hard and always Ride Smart.

ROAD TO THE HORSE

2010 World Champion in Colt Starting

EXCA Founder, Craig Cameron has been crowned the 2010 World Champion in Colt Starting by winning the Road to the Horse in Murfreesboro, TN.  Craig was going head to head with Ken McNabb and 2009 World Champion, Richard Winters.  The competition began with each of them picking out their colt from a remuda of 10.   Each had 3 hours over a two day period to get the colt started under saddle.  This is a challenge under any circumstances, but to get it done in front of a crowd of 7,000 spectators adds an element that is beyond what most people can successfully handle.  The panel of judges gave Craig the nod as did the unofficial vote of the crowd via text message.

Congratulations Craig, you are the World Champion!!

2010 EXCA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

The 2010 EXCA World Championship will return to the Kansas Expocentre in Topeka, Kansas.  The dates will be November 12 – 14, 2010.

We will have two host hotels this year; the Capital Plaza Hotel at $69 per night and the Ramada Convention Center (10 minutes from the Expocentre) at $69 per night.  The Ramada will also include two free drinks each evening and a free hot breakfast each morning.  Both room blocks are listed under Extreme Cowboy Association.

As we return to Topeka, we have made changes in the schedule to make certain we do not run into the very late hours that we experienced on Saturday night at the 2009 EXCA World Championship.

As a note of interest, we researched 10 other locations that were suggested by EXCA members, prior to making the decision to return to Topeka.

We look forward to seeing you there!

EXTREME COWBOY JUDGING CLINIC

Mark your calendars for this one!  Plan to attend the first EXCA judging clinic, April 23 – 25 at the Double Horn Ranch in Bluff Dale, Texas.  Our founder Craig Cameron will be hosting and leading participants through an exciting and entertaining weekend of learning the fine points of judging an Extreme Cowboy Race.  The clinic will consist of discussion, questions and answers, judging live on the original Extreme Cowboy course as seen on RFD-TV and the written test.  Upon successful completion, you will receive your Level 3 Judges rating*.

The cost of the clinic is $650.00 which includes lodging, breakfast and lunch each day.  Call 800-274-0077 to make your reservation!

* Judges will have ratings of Level 1 – 5.  All Judges will begin at Level 1 with the exception of those that attend this clinic.

EXCA REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

We are receiving inquiries from EXCA Clubs asking about hosting the 2010 Regional Championships.  We are currently accepting applications from Clubs that are interested in hosting the championship for their Region.  The application can be found on the EXCA website.

If your Club has an interest in hosting the Regional Championship, please fill out the application and submit it to the EXCA office no later than April 30, 2010.  Each application will be reviewed and award notices will be sent out in May.
