We are excited about 2009 and the many fun filled and exciting Extreme Cowboy Racing events that are on the schedule.  The formation of EXCA has been an thrilling and challenging adventure! Many people have worked tirelessly to create an association that you will be proud to tell your friends about.  This is the latest issue of your monthly newsletter, The Brave Horse.  

You will receive it each month electronically around the middle of the month.  The Brave Horse will be full of interesting stories, EXCA event results, point standings, human interest stories about EXCA members and Tips and Tales from our founder, Craig Cameron.  We encourage you to communicate your suggestions for stories and ideas that will make  The Brave Horse fun, better and more informative.

2009 EXCA World Championships

As the old saying goes, “Time flies when you’re having fun!”  It’s hard to believe that our first season will conclude following the 2009 EXCA World Championship.

We want to thank each of you for your participation and support this year.  As we look forward to the 2010 season, we are eager and excited about getting it started!  We are working diligently to help make 2010 an even better year!  Many of you have taken the time to make comments or suggestions to us throughout the year.  We really do appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts with us. 

The EXCA Rulebook is being thoroughly reviewed in an effort to make needed changes and /or modifications to make the Rulebook more detailed and easy to use.  We are also in the process of getting a Judges Certification process online for 2010.  We plan to have a Judges Certification meeting to explain the process at the World Championship in Topeka.

As we approach the 2010 season, we are offering all current EXCA members a discount for renewing your annual membership by December 31, 2009. The renewal fee for Individual Pro, Non-Pro, Ride Smart and Novice memberships will be discounted from $65.00 to $55.00; Youth and Young Gun memberships will be discounted from $65.00 to $45.00 and Family memberships will be discounted from $105.00 to $95.00.

WhooHoo What a Ride!

Bill Hull asked that I write an article about myself for this month's Brave Horse.  I can't think of anything I won't do for the association.  I'm one of its loudest cheerleaders and I'm devoted to seeing it succeed and thrive.  It certainly has been a positive, deeply personal experience for me to have witnessed in all of the new competitors this year the same enthusiasm, passion for riding, and quest for excellence that has driven me the last 2 and a half years.  

He wants me to tell you about my horses.  My big, amazing sorrel bud Otis is having some time off, recovering from an injury.  Hoss, the three year old grullo Journey colt, is my current competition horse.  He is going to be a corker!  Naturally I'm proud to have made it out of the round pen with him...and be moving him toward more and more competitive runs.  I have two more geldings on deck for competing, Leon and Zoot.  

What are my goals?

Make some small improvement in my horsemanship each time I'm around horses. 

Continue to develop brave, broke riding partners. 

Listen and deliver when Jerry tells me to get the lead out. 

Collect more ECR friends at each event.  

Oh yeah, and one day WIN the WORLD.

It is daunting, challenging and ultimately energizing for me to see all of the outstanding horse/rider teams coming out to our races each weekend, raising the levels of skill and dare.  And what does that guy Cameron say?  The will to win is nothing without the will to prepare.  If I only ever get the prepare in the equation, I will be better for it even without the wins. 

My philosophy:  have fun always, and trust my horse to carry me through to the other side....of whatever it is we're up against that particular day. 

About EXCA:  We are a group who crave the smell of our horse's coats, smile after an eye-tearing sprint up a hill, climb back in the saddle day after day with rumps and knees raw, push ourselves, push our best friends, equine and human, to cross lines we haven't crossed before.  We comb the internet for extreme news, photos, and videos, search the closet or the catalogues for just the right scarf or pad or hat, lose sleep, hearts pounding, the night before a race. thinking about the free ride.  This bit? Those reins?  Do I want the #2 slot in the order of go or is #6 just right?  We talk to ourselves, to our mounts, you're alright, look up, stay straight, trust me, go fast NOW!  WhooHoo, what a RIDE!!

The most exciting equine event of the year is coming to the Kansas Expocentre in Topeka, Kansas, November 13-15, 2009.  The original Extreme Cowboy, Craig Cameron, is bringing the Extreme Cowboy Association World Championship to the Heart of America for all to see.

The event will showcase the “best of the best” as over 300 Horse/Rider teams from more than 40 States have earned the invitation to show their skills at maneuvering their horses through the challenging obstacle course exhibiting a combination of outstanding horsemanship and speed with control.  Contestants will be vying for cash and prizes, but the most sought after trophy is to be crowned the Extreme Cowboy Association World Champion.
